What Is Psychotherapy?
What Is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy helps people to live happier healthier more productive lives. Dr. Sears applies research-based techniques to help you develop more effective habits. There are several approaches to psychotherapy including cognitive behavioral, interpersonal, and psychodynamic among others. I view psychotherapy as a partnership. She provides the psychological expertise and you provide your knowledge of yourself and your situation. You and Dr. Sears form a team to help you learn more about yourself, overcome your past, work through life stressors, and realize your goals.

If you have felt depressed angry or anxious for a long time and it is starting to interfere with your relationships and your work life, you could benefit from psychotherapy. You may benefit from psychotherapy if you’re dealing with chronic and debilitating illnesses such as Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, lung disease, or any other chronic medical illness. Finally, your physician may refer you for psychotherapy in order to improve your compliance with his medical recommendations for such illnesses as diabetes or weight management.

You maybe wondering how long psychotherapy will take. A large majority of people who suffer from mental health disorders able to reduce or eliminate their symptoms. However, length of treatment may vary ased on the presenting problem and other individual factors. There may also be the additional factor of financial resources or limitations imposed by your managed-care company. Ultimately, treatment needs to be tailored to each individual patient. In the first few sessions you and I will decide the goals of treatment and we will carefully monitor those goals for entertainment. As we near goal attainment, we will begin to talk about terminating treatment when appropriate.

Long-term recovery prospects are good for most individuals who seek appropriate professional treatment.
