For patients with sickle cell anemia and blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma, there is a cure. And the amazing thing is, as a member of Be The Match Registry®, it could be you! If you match a patient in need of a marrow transplant, you could be the only one out of millions who can save that patient’s life. And while no one can predict if you will ever be called to donate, the most important thing you can do is to be there and be willing to donate if you are the best match for a patient in need.

INCREASE THE ODDS

As an African American or Black registry member, the need for you to stay committed is great, because African Americans and Blacks have the lowest odds of finding a match compared to all other populations. The odds of finding a match are so low because of the degree of diversity in HLA types within the African American and Black community, as well as an overall lower availability rate when called as a match for a patient. July is African American Bone Marrow Awareness Month, so we are reaching out to ask you to help increase the odds for searching patients, like Josh. 20140728-135052-49852140.jpg
